FAQ

  • Is Kosovo expensive?

No. Kosovo is one of the most affordable destinations in Europe. Accommodation, restaurants, cafés, and public transportation are generally inexpensive, making it an excellent destination for budget-conscious travelers.

  • Can you drink the tap water?

Yes, in most parts of Kosovo. Tap water is generally considered safe to drink, particularly in larger cities such as Pristina and Prizren. However, if you have a sensitive stomach or are traveling in remote mountain villages, bottled water is a reasonable precaution

  • Do I need cash?

Yes. While credit and debit cards are accepted in many hotels, supermarkets, and larger restaurants, cash is still widely used. Carry some euros (€) for small cafés, local bakeries, markets, taxis, and rural businesses.

  • Best month to visit?

The best months to visit are May, June, September, and October. These months offer pleasant temperatures, ideal conditions for sightseeing and hiking, and fewer crowds. July and August are warmer and livelier, with festivals and outdoor events, but can also be quite hot.

  • How many days?

Plan for 4–6 days to experience Kosovo’s highlights, including Pristina, Prizren, Peja (Peć), and the Rugova Valley. If you enjoy hiking or exploring mountain villages, consider spending a full week.

  • Safe for solo travellers?

Yes. Kosovo is considered a welcoming destination for solo travelers. The country’s hospitality is one of its defining characteristics, and visitors often find locals eager to help. As with any destination, stay aware of your surroundings, keep valuables secure, and use licensed taxis or reputable transportation services.

  • Is Kosovo safe?*

Yes. Kosovo is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, and violent crime against visitors is uncommon. Petty theft, such as pickpocketing, can occur in busy public places, so normal travel precautions are recommended. Canadians should always consult the Government of Canada’s Travel Advice and Advisories or your Local Government’s Travel Advice or Advisories before departure, as travel advice may change over time.
